Our CEO, Karen DSilva

I walked into weHeroines thinking I had my life sorted out. And in many ways I did. I had built a successful career in marketing strategy and content creation. I had traveled. I had found a great partner, and we started a family. We left New York City for the quieter life we wanted in Maine. From the outside — and from the inside — things looked right. But sorted out and fully alive are not the same thing.

When I encountered the Heroine's Journey framework, something shifted. I started to understand my dragons — the fear wearing the mask of procrastination, the harsh words I was telling myself, the obsession over what could go wrong that was in its own way calling those things toward me. I saw how much energy I spent trying to control what was never mine to control.

And then I remembered my past Journeys and the dreams I had for myself before I became so settled in. The inner voice I had slowly stopped listening to. The version of myself I had set aside without quite realizing it. When I saw myself as the Heroine of my own story, everything changed. Not overnight. Not without struggle. But I stopped mourning the things I hadn't done. I stopped focusing on the what-ifs. I started trusting that, given a little faith, it would all fall into place.

And then something else happened. Reconnecting to my courage—to take chances, follow my dreams, start living fully, and embrace the life I was living—I heard a voice. Gradual at first. A nudge to help the women I cared for around me. I was already helping women entrepreneurs find a way to be their authentic selves. This calling to help more women see themselves through the Heroine's Journey framework became clearer. To gather and celebrate the messy and beautiful stories we all lead. To go bigger — beyond the women closest to me, beyond my marketing clients — to a larger community of women I hadn't yet met but already felt called to serve. That voice became what Susanna Liller and I created… weHeroines.

I am happier now than I have ever been. Not because my life is easier. But because I am finally living it as mine. There is a weHeroines phrase I carry with me that helped me finally live — jump, and the bridge will appear. If you are standing where I was standing — accomplished, capable, and still somehow not quite yourself — I want to tell you what I wish someone had told me.

Have the courage to stay open when nothing seems certain. Embrace your way of seeing the world. Listen to that inner voice. Don't hide the thing that makes you different. Live an unforgettable life. That is how you find your way. That is what weHeroines gave me. And it is what this community makes possible for every woman who walks through our door.
