Our Founder, Susanna Liller

I didn't set out to build any of this. In 2000, I was working with women as an executive coach, watching them lead their organizations, and I kept noticing the same gap. I could see their strength clearly. They couldn't. Confidence, not capability, was always the thing standing in their way.

I started where I knew how to start — with planning, the same strategic process I'd used for years with companies, just turned toward their own lives instead. It gave them a path forward. More than that, it showed them they already had a strong inner voice guiding them, if they'd only trust it. Then, in 2007, I came across Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, and something clicked into place. I began reshaping it around the lives of the women I was working with — their Calls, their Thresholds, their Journeys. That was the moment I found my life's work. Not just coaching. Teaching women to see their own lives as a story they were capable of leading.

What I've come to understand, teaching this framework for over two decades, is that it was never really about the framework at all. It's about confidence. Helping a woman find what she needs to step into her full self, in the world, without apologizing for taking up the space. But there was a piece I couldn't give women through teaching alone: each other. Women didn't just want to learn this. They wanted to walk it together — to gather, to witness one another, to be less alone in the crossing. That need became its own thing, bigger than anything I could hold inside my own practice. So I did what felt obvious once I saw it clearly: I gave the framework itself to weHeroines, so the teaching and the community around it could each grow into what they were meant to be.

I still teach. I still believe, as much as I ever have, that this way of seeing a life changes it. But watching a room full of women hold each other up — that is the part I didn't know I was building toward. That is weHeroines.
